The Location

The JFK CV-67 Memorial Foundation has identified only two potential venues to berth the USS John F. Kennedy as a permanent attraction - ironically situated just 25 miles apart from one another in South Florida.  Both the Port of Miami and Port Everglades met the initial criteria of available deep-water berthing space and tourist-based economies.  As with the example of the San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum (USS Midway), the added benefit of year-round operations enabled by the mild weather of southern latitudes makes either of these locations a viable candidate from the perspective of self-sustainability.

The Boston Option

When Floridian, Paul Troxell, founded the JFK CV-67 Memorial Foundation, Inc. in January, 2007, he intended to lead the effort to “Save The JFK” to his home town of Boston – a location synonymous with the Kennedy family name.  Boston was his first choice, for all the reasons that would readily come to mind for anyone who understands the close relationship between the people of Boston - the Kennedy family in general and President Kennedy in particular.

Fort Lauderdale Option

An equally compelling case can be constructed, subject to the Port Director's approval, for berthing the USS John F. Kennedy just 25 miles to the north in Fort Lauderdale.
